FEDER KNIVES X DAVE RIZO
This new 7” chef knife collab with Yellow Rose is really special. When I met Dave Rizo of Yellow Rose Restaurant in NYC I already had a soft spot for him. The restaurant is 2.5 blocks away from my old apartment in the LES of the 90’s! That's good enough for me. When we talked about the style of the Texas-inspired food, we found a connection that made this collaboration special. Dave uses a specific Pecan wood from Texas to smoke the food the restaurant serves. I asked him to send me some, and when it arrived it was spalted with a lot of character. Perfect for handle scales. We stabilized it, and it was a great material to work with. With yellow and green liners sandwiching our signature file work, it came out as a stunning batch!
Yellow Rose is the brainchild of Dave and Krystiana Rizo and has been open since November 2020. The menu offers food and drink inspired by their south Texas roots, mainly San Antonio, where the couple was born and raised. They offer everything from Texas classics, such as fresh flour tortillas filled with stewed beef in chili gravy, to daily specials consisting of produce from New York state made with their own Texas spin. Everything that comes out of Yellow Rose is made 100% from scratch and with lots of history and love behind it, including the wood used for the handle material of the knife. The wood comes from a pecan farm in Austin that Dave & Krystiana have used for years - they use them for the delicious pecan pies that they make & sell from Yellow Rose every year for Thanksgiving. Dave & Krystiana actually went to the farm to hand-select the wood themselves for the knives. Ten percent of each purchase will be donated to World Central Kitchen, a cause close to Dave’s heart.
